Being fair about it.
There is nothing wrong with either half of this arrangement. Dispatch software that focuses on dispatch is usually good at dispatch, and accounting packages are mature, well understood and trusted by the person who has to sign the return. The problem is not the tools. It is the seam.
Where the work crosses a line.
The useful comparison is not a feature checklist — it is how many times the same shipment has to be entered. Every row below is a hand-off, and every hand-off is a chance for something to be typed wrong or not typed at all.

Where this approach genuinely wins.
Where it breaks down.
At the seam, and only at month end. The dispatch system says one thing and the books say another, the difference is small enough to be plausible, and finding it is somebody's afternoon. Meanwhile the things that should have been billed at the moment they happened — detention, an extra stop, a lumper fee — never made the crossing, because the person raising the invoice was not the person who saw them.
